Carmen’s mission is to help every career candidate navigate their individual and unique career journey. We’ve developed a platform to deliver innovative solutions to help career candidates discover, plan and execute on their career goals.
We collect data about you when you utilize our websites and applications. We store this information when you enter it on our website, send it to us, or provide it to us in any other way.
We collect data and information about you, including your contact information such as name, email address, street address, and phone number, your job experience, the information you use to apply to jobs on Carmen, information imported by you from third party applications when signing on to Carmen, information you provide to us when you contact Carmen and your race, ethnicity, or gender if you choose to provide it. We may also store credit card number and billing information (for services requiring payment) or information about your business, such as company name, size, and business type.
We collect certain information when you visit our site or use our mobile application. This information includes details regarding your activity on Carmen, including the jobs and skills you view, apply and optimize your resume to, your IP address and internet service provider details, your browser type and device ID, files viewed on our site, and operating system.
This data is collected about you automatically and is processed for Carmen’s legitimate interest. We combine this information with personal data to help detect and prevent fraud. We also use this data along with your profile and resume content to return personalized results to you such as job or skills suggestions.
You can correct or remove this information by accessing your account settings at any time.
Utilization of Data
We use the data we collect to provide personalized recommendations, respond to your requests, operate and improve our sites and applications, and to deliver an overall positive user experience.
We use information with your consent as described at the time we collect that consent.
We use personal data for our legitimate interests to operate our platform and services for our users and customers. We also use information to contact and communicate with you when you contact us, to analyze, improve and optimize Carmen services, to protect the rights of users and others and to enforce terms of Carmen’s services and prevent fraud and abuse.
By registering with Carmen, by managing your profile, by publicly posting information, or by opting in when presented with choices, you have consented for us to use your information to provide you with our services.
Some of our products and services, such as our resume optimization, resume manager, profile database and social media search, enable third parties to see your personal information and to contact you.
Information you post in public areas of Carmen sites or applications or make visible in the resume and profile database may be accessed, used, and stored by outside parties, including those in countries that might not have legislation that adequately protects your personal information. While Carmen takes measures to safeguard your information from unauthorized access or inappropriate use, we cannot control these third parties and we are not responsible for their use of information you give to us. Accordingly, you should not post sensitive information or any other information you would not want made public, to any Carmen site or application or to a public website.
Our services include the display of personalized content and advertising relating to your career experience and interests. We use personalized data to determine whether you might be interested in certain job opportunities, or products or services of a particular third party. We may show you targeted job ads or career related advertisements while using our services. These advertisements are targeted based on information we gather about you and information about you we acquire from third parties including public websites and data providers. You may edit your account notification settings at anytime to customize the notifications you receive.
Disclosure of Data to Third Parties
We provide you and other career candidates with a platform to broadcast information about yourself to maximize your career opportunities. The information we gather may be shared with employers, when you make your resume searchable or when you apply to a job.
By applying to a job, providing your contact information to show interest in a job, or by replying to a message from an employer, you consent to the disclosure of your information to that employer and to be contacted by such employer for employment related purposes.
We may also share your information with other companies hired to provide services on Carmen’s behalf. We share your information with our service providers, which are third parties who help deliver our products and services to you. Examples of these third party services include those who host services for our web servers and site databases, provide marketing assistance, provide customer management tools, process credit card payments, or provide customer service. These companies will have access to your personal information as necessary to perform their functions, but they may not use that data for any other purpose. We will remain responsible for any information shared in this way.
We do not share contact information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless you affirmatively agree to such disclosure. if you make your profile active and your resume searchable or if we collect information you’ve made available on a public website, then all parties with access to our resume or profile database products will have access to your information. if you opt in to receive information about the products or services of certain third parties, we will supply your contact information to those parties so they may contact you.
We also share aggregated information (including location data) about Carmen site visitors and application users with third parties to serve job and career related advertisements to you. We also aggregate data regarding your experience level, skills, job qualifications, education, age or other information relevant to the job search. This aggregated data does not identify users individually, and may be made available to employers or shared publicly.
We disclose information if legally required to do so, or at our discretion pursuant to a request from a governmental entity to comply with legal requirements. We may also disclose information to protect our rights or property or our affiliated companies, to investigate fraud or prevent a crime or to protect national security and to protect the personal safety of users or the public.
We may also disclose and transfer personal information to a third party who acquires any or all of Carmen’s business units, whether such acquisition is by way of merger, consolidation or purchase of all or a substantial portion of our assets. In addition, in the event Carmen becomes the subject of an insolvency proceeding, such information will be disposed of in a transaction approved by the court. You will be notified of the sale of all or a substantial portion of our business to a third party by email or through a prominent notice posted on the site.
We allow our customers to display job related advertisements or other advertisements to you while you are using our sites and applications. These customers can view, edit or set their own cookies, just as if you had requested a web page from their site. The cookies placed by these third parties could remain on your computer after you have left our site unless you choose to delete them.
Carmen uses several third parties to help provide analytics and to serve advertisements. You can opt out of third party cookies by setting your browser to decline cookies.
Use of Social Media Plug-ins and Widgets
If you choose to sign in to Carmen with Facebook, Google or similar services, we import the requested information from your account and we make it part of your profile.
We may also collect personal information about others from you. For example, if you choose to invite a friend to our website, we will ask you for your friend’s name and email address. We will automatically send your friend or friends a one-time email inviting them to visit the site. We will temporarily store this information for the primary purpose of sending this one-time email invitation.
Data Relating to your Resume
When you upload, optimize your resume, or apply to a job, we store your resume in our job applications history and Resume Manager. You may control the status of your resume by setting your profile status to Active or Inactive (Passive). When your profile is Active, your resume may be viewed by any customer who has access to our resume and profile database. We cannot control the use or retention of resumes that have been viewed or downloaded by others.
If your status is Inactive or Passive, your resume is hidden in our resume and profile database, but information we acquire about you from a public website may be visible. Under Inactive or Passive status, you may still use your resume to apply online to a job. If you apply to a job, it will be transferred to the relevant employer, who may retain a copy of it.
While we do our best to limit access to our resume and profile database to only legitimate users, we cannot guarantee that other parties will not gain access to this database. Once your resume has been disclosed, Carmen is not able to retrieve it from the third parties who accessed it. Accordingly, you should not provide any sensitive information, personality profiles, or other information you would not want to be in the public domain, in your profile or resume. If your resume includes any personal data of references, it is your responsibility to ensure that the references are aware that you have forwarded their details and have consented in writing for you to do so.
Resumes you give to us should not contain sensitive data relating to your particular characteristics such as racial or ethnic origin, political, philosophical or religious beliefs, membership of a trade union or political party, physical or mental health, biometric details, genetic makeup, addictions or sexual life, criminal offenses or proceedings or associated penalties or fines, the commission of any unlawful or objectionable conduct and associated penalties, or any other national identification number such as a Social Security Number. If you do provide or share this information with us, then you agree that it is at your own risk.
Data Retention Policy
If you are located in the EU, your account will expire and be scheduled for removal from our site after 5 years of inactivity. Our inactive accounts are deleted routinely. If we notice that your account contains a stored resume in our Resume Manager, you will receive an email from us before we delete your account and its contents.
Carmen will provide you with access to information we hold about you upon request. You may update or delete your resume or profile at any time. To do so, you can sign in, go to your Resume Manager or profile and execute the desired changes. If you do not have an account, or if you believe that someone else has provided us with your information, please contact us at email@example.com. You also have the rights to data portability and to request that Carmen restrict processing data about you.
Corrections, updates, or deletions of your personal information may be limited or denied by Carmen if it violates another individual’s rights or violates applicable law.
If you desire to delete your account information, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will send you an email to confirm that your personal information has been deleted. We may retain your personal data even after you have decided to close your account if reasonably necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, investigate security incidents, meet regulatory requirements, or prevent fraud and abuse. However, we may retain anonymized information even after your account has been closed.
Carmen will respond to information access requests within a reasonable timeframe. If we need additional time to provide access to your information, we will acknowledge the receipt of your request within a reasonable timeframe and supplement our response within the time period required by applicable law.
Some Carmen customers may store their resume databases on Carmen’s servers. As a result, Carmen is a data processor for personal information received in this way. If you would like to review, or correct your personal information, you should directly connect and contact our customer (your potential employer) with any such requests. We plan to cooperate as appropriate with requests from our customers to assist with such responses.
You should be aware that profiles and resumes may be monitored by your current employer. If you decide to make any online purchases on Carmen’s website, your credit card information is encrypted with industry standard encryption.
It is your responsibility to keep your username and password private. The security of your private information is important to us and we utilize a variety of methods to safeguard and protect your personal information that is shared with us, both during transmission and receipt. Carmen takes appropriate measures to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration or disclosure.
Minors or Children
Carmen is not intended for, nor do we knowingly collect information from, children under the age of 16.
A resident of the state of California who provides any personal information to a business with whom he/she has established a business relationship for personal, family, or household purposes (“California customer”) is entitled to request information about whether the business has disclosed any personal information to any third parties for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes. In general, if the business has made such a disclosure of personal information, upon receipt of a request by a California customer, the business is required to provide a list of all third parties to whom personal information was disclosed in the preceding calendar year, as well as a list of the categories of personal information that were disclosed.
However, under the law, a business entity is not required to provide the above-described lists if the business adopts and discloses to the public a policy of not disclosing customer’s personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless the customer first affirmatively agrees to the disclosure, as long as the business maintains and discloses this policy. Rather, the business may comply with the law by notifying the customer of his or her right to prevent disclosure of personal information and providing a cost free means to exercise that right.
Carmen Technologies, Inc. does not share information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless you affirmatively agree to such disclosure. If you do ask us to share your information with a third party for its marketing purposes, we will only share information in connection with that specific promotion, as we do not share information with any third party on a continual basis.
California customers may request further information about our compliance with this law by emailing us at email@example.com. Please note that we are only required to respond to one request per customer each year, and we are not required to respond to requests made by means other than through this email address.
Information Relating to Carmen’s Mobile Application
In addition to the information practices described above, the following section applies to Carmen’s collection and use of information collected via our mobile application. When the mobile application is utilized, Carmen may collect and use information about you in several ways.
The app will collect your geographic location if you decide to opt-in. Your location is used to show you jobs that are nearby. Your location data may be kept for 2 weeks in our logs and for up to a year in log archives
The app displays jobs sourced that may be sourced through our own employees or through third party job websites. If you apply to any one of these jobs, Carmen will send your information to that job website and that site may contact you regarding your job application
Carmen may collect a phone number from you for the purpose of sending you a text message with a link to download the Carmen app. You agree that you own the number you provide and that you will not hold Carmen responsible for text message charges
Location and Storage of Your Data and Contact Information
Your data and contact information is submitted to Carmen and is hosted and stored in a database on servers situated in the United States. Carmen Technologies, Inc. is a Delaware corporation with its principal place of business at 19 South B. St, Suite 3, San Mateo, CA 94401. Carmen Technologies, Inc. is the legal entity determining the purposes and means of processing the information gathered on Carmen sites and applications and is the data controller of all data that Carmen collects from you. Carmen Technologies, Inc. is also a data controller of personal data collected on this site.
